Is Now the Time to Change Jobs? Knowing When to Make Your Move

It’s normal to hit a point in your current role where you start to question if it is enough for you and whether there are bigger and better challenges to be had elsewhere. Rather than jumping ship too soon or too late, maybe it’s time to evaluate your current position and decide if you can get more from it or whether you need to find something new. Take a look some key questions you need to ask yourself to help you work out what to do next.

Why Are You Thinking About a New Role?

If things are going well in your current role and you are making progress then thinking about a new opportunity may seem silly. However, rather than dismissing the question without a second thought, why not start to think about why now may be a good time.

Being given the opportunity to grow is great but if your heart isn’t in the work or you feel that you could achieve more doing something different then it could be time to switch. However, if you are feeling overwhelmed with your current workload and want to reduce the pressure then the solution may just require you to schedule a meeting with your manager to discuss your concerns.

Is Your Salary or Benefits Causing Concern?

There’s no doubt that we are in a financial crisis, leaving many employees concerned about the longevity of their roles and their salary packages. If you have these concerns then you may be thinking about a new role in order to improve your income and give you the leeway you need to ride out the storm.

The only problem with leaving a job that works for you for something better paid means that you may not be ready for the new challenge. Before you decide to leave, why not speak to your manager to find out if there is any scope for improvement in your current role before walking out the door?

Do You Want a New Challenge?

The main reason that people decide to leave their job is to take on something new and exciting. If you have found an opportunity that really resonates with your personal goals and aspirations then nothing should hold you back from taking it.

However, if you are feeling bored and want any kind of change then you may find that there is scope within your current organisation to move you to something fresh. Take a look at the current opportunities within your organisation and don’t be afraid to put the feelers out – if you are happy with the company but want something new then there could be an opportunity just around the corner.

Trust Your Instincts

Ultimately, only you will know when it really is time to leave your current role for something new.
