GeneCoda™ raises over $2,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

RTP, NC, May 21, 2018 — On Saturday, May 19^th, the GeneCoda™ team walked in the Wake County Great Strides Walk benefitting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF). GeneCoda™ raised over $2,000 in donations to benefit the CFF.

Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a progressive, genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and limits the ability to breathe over time.  In people with CF, a defective gene causes a thick, sticky buildup of mucus in the lungs, pancreas, and other organs. In the lungs, the mucus clogs the airways and traps bacteria leading to infections, extensive lung damage, and eventually, respiratory failure. In the pancreas, the mucus prevents the release of digestive enzymes that allow the body to break down food and absorb vital nutrients.

The Great Strides Walk is a fun, family-friendly event that raises awareness and support for people with CF and their families.

President and Managing Director Don Alexander, who also chairs the CFF Carolina’s Chapter Board was honored to recite NC Governor Roy Cooper’s proclamation that the month of May is CF awareness month.  The Governor’s mansion’s gardens were decorated with 1,000 colorful pinwheels representing the NC CF patient population.

GeneCoda™ is a proud supporter of the CFF.  We walk for the 70,000 global, 30,000 US and 1,000 NC patients living with Cystic Fibrosis (CF).  These are moms, dads, sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, friends and co-workers who struggle every day just to breathe.

We walk because the CF Foundation is effective and efficient which means that more of our patron’s dollars go to research and patient care and support versus overhead.

We walk because the cure is within our reach and many of us will see the cure in our lifetimes.  Although there are over 1.900 genetic mutations of CF, terrific scientific progress is being made.  With new combination therapies, we may be able to treat 80-90% of all patients by 2020 which is up from less than 50% today.  Join our fight.
